I was born in 1970 and have been interested in radio since I was 5 years old when I asked
my parents "How did they get all those people in that little box." I grew up
listening to stations like 93KHJ (AM 930) in Los Angeles, when they changed to a country
format in 1980 I began listening to "The Mighty 690" (XETRA) this station came
in from Tijuana, Mexico. I also listened to other stations, 100 FM KIQQ (100.3) and K-West
106 (KWST 105.9) in Los Angeles. In 1982 a good friend (Joe Goria) told me that after sunset other stations
came in from far away on the AM band and this began my DX'ing hobby one of the first
"DX" stations I heard was 67KBOI (670 in Boise, Idaho) and WOW I thought that
was really cool so every night through most of my teens I listened intently every night
for other stations. That of course was my nighttime hobby...

I started my daytime hobby in 1983 with the purchase of my first shortwave radio, it
all began in the summer of 1983 a friend from school got a shortwave radio and would bring tapes of Radio Moscow I
thought, wow, listening to stations from around the world, so on my 13th birthday my
parents took me to Radio Shack where I got my first shortwave radio a Realistic
DX-66 (Which I still have to this day) and listened to stations such as Radio Moscow,
Radio Netherlands, Radio South Africa, BBC, Radio Australia and many more. Shortwave was
very interesting during the "cold war." So I spent my afternoons after school
listening to shortwave and I was up half the night DXing on the AM broadcast band, on top
of that I still managed to graduate high school!

Even though I was busy listening to Shortwave and AM broadcast I still found time to do
one of my low priority radio hobbies which is scanning that started when I was very young
my Grandmother had a portable multiband radio it had the VHF aircraft and public service
bands on it and since she lived in Manhattan Beach, Ca. we were close to LAX and you could
hear all the planes and the tower also I enjoyed listening to the National Weather Service
frequency 162.550 MHz. Well anyway this started a lesser part of my radio activity and in
1984 a friend in high school gave me a scanner and on that is where I first heard a
"ham" radio operator he was Dick Van Dyke, yes, Dick Van Dyke calling CQ in the
two meter ham band, boy I wish I had been a ham at that time, unfortunately I didn't meet
my first ham friend till 1990
Fast forward to 1990 I met my first ham friend at Tetelestai Christian Center in
Torrance, California when I volunteered to run audio for the church, which is how I
met Bill Wolverton (KI7F) we got to talking about radio and the rest is history. Bill took
me to a ham radio class at the L. A. Maritime museum, but it turned out due to events in
my life I didn't get licensed till 1994.
In September of 1992 I moved to Utah and in February of 1993 a dream of mine came true
When I went to work for Radio station KEYY 1450 AM in Provo, Utah. where I worked a couple
of months till I went to KOVO 960 AM in Provo, Utah (at that time the station held the
call sign of KFMY) I worked there for about three months then moved on to KKBE 95.5
FM/KJOE 1490 AM in Ogden, Utah. I stayed there for six months, I found radio to be a very
cut throat industry, even though I still hope to get back into radio someday.
In 1994 while working for a gas station as the nighttime manager I studied to take the
amateur radio test, in November I went to U.V.C.C. a community college in Provo to take
the test, it just so happened I had to drive in the worst snow storm of that season to get
there and of course I passed, the first thing I did after I was informed that I had passed
I went to a pay phone and called Bill (KI7F) who at that time still lived in California
and told him, boy that was quite a conversation, Bill moved up to Utah in December of that
year and he was my first contact on ham radio when my license came in January of 1995 with
the call sign of KC7HUB. In 1996 I started a MSYS Packet BBS which I ran till
august of 1998, I ran a packet node SPFORK:KC7HUB-2, by late 1998 I stopped
operating packet from home and began concentrating on my internet radio station
